Abstract

Monitoring carbon dioxide concentrations in the near-surface atmospheric layer is a current task in the context of global climate change, due to the interrelationship between rising temperatures and CO₂ levels. This article presents the results of an analysis of seasonal fluctuations in carbon dioxide content, its vertical distribution, and temporal dynamics over Central Yakutia.

The studied region, with its extensive permafrost and typical boreal taiga forest, is an important link for understanding the dynamics of changes in the carbon cycle of northeastern Russia. The degradation of permafrost ecosystems under warming conditions may lead to the emission of accumulated carbon dioxide.

Air samples were collected at various altitudes, from 100 m to 3000 m, once a month during daylight hours above the scientific forest station Spasskaya Pad. The results of a three-year analysis reflect seasonal fluctuations in CO₂ concentration and its distribution at the different heights within the planetary boundary layer over Central Yakutia. The study found that during the long cold period, there is an accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, with a significant decrease in values during the warm season. Maximum average concentrations are recorded in February-March, while minimum values are observed in June-July. In winter months, the CO₂ concentration is distributed relatively evenly across different

altitudes. In contrast to summer months, when significant deviations in concentration levels are observed. The dynamics of carbon dioxide concentration demonstrate a gradual increase in atmospheric CO₂, with an annual rise in average values observed in both the cold and warm periods of the year.

The obtained quantitative characteristics of the seasonal dynamics of CO₂ concentration and the rate of its increase can contribute to a better understanding of changes in carbon dioxide concentration across various climatic regions of Russia. The study also reveals specific features of carbon dioxide content in permafrost ecosystems, which is crucial for an adequate assessment of the impact of climate change.
